As a Startup that began a little over a year ago, our growth has been rapid and exciting. From three inspired founders, to the first intern, to the first full-time person, to now 30 employees in multiple cities and a continued expansion. Not just F&B Professionals and Business Partners, but our employees! Our Qwick team is a family, and we take workplace happiness very seriously. Here are some ways we promote a happy, exciting, and engaging workplace.
Autonomy to do good work
Qwick offers optional remote days, unlimited PTO, and no required clock-in and clock-out times. Instead, we have a team of self-starters who are empowered to do great work on a schedule that makes sense, and with the freedom to choose environments we work best in.
Every year we host a company retreat, affectionately coined QwickCamp. We all spend a few days together (this year we were tucked in the Flagstaff woods) to align on goals, to celebrate wins, and to challenge ourselves to think big.
We celebrate each other
From all-out birthday desk decor to surprise baby showers, we are serious about having fun. Celebrating our coworkers isn't an obligation, it's something we self-select to plan for.
Seems simple, but this word goes a long way at Qwick. We give each other the benefit of the doubt, and are trusted to do the right thing.
Employee-owned onboarding process
What started as a necessity due to no HR department has now grown into a process our entire team is happy to be a part of. When we bring on a new team member they are assigned an on-boarding partner who helps coordinate the details of their first week, including group lunches and team one to one's. We make a point of putting them in groups with team members who aren't in their direct department, to make sure everyone gets a proper chance to meet. Our remote team members are all flown out to our HQ in Scottsdale, AZ to experience the exact same onboarding process.
Monthly engagement surveys
At the end of each month, we send a simple survey to the company to do a qwick cultural temp check. We assess if the team is feeling engaged, happy, and if they have the tools necessary to succeed.
Team happy hours
Once a month our team plans a simply happy hour where we stop talking about work and get to know each other better. With a team that is rapidly growing, there are always new things to learn and new embarrassing life stories to hear about.
Ultimately, company culture starts at the top and is kept alive with lots of collaborative hard work. Being a great place to work isn't having a ping pong table, or offering free coffee, it's genuinely caring about the people who are bringing this company to life and embracing them like family.
